3 Wild Dental Emergency Stories from Other Offices

Woman shocked while holding her hand to her chest

When it comes to dental emergencies, you might imagine the typical pain or loose restoration. However, while these situations are more common, there are other bizarre cases you won’t believe. Here are three strange stories from different offices that might have you grateful yours is a simple toothache.

Growing Your Own Garden

This story starts like many others with a patient going to their dentist for dental discomfort. After a thorough examination, an urgent root canal was recommended, so the team got to work right away. As the usual plaque and debris were being cleared out, the provider noticed something poking out along the gumline.

As they got a closer look, they saw a tiny sprout growing in the soft tissues. A stray tomato seed ended up getting lodged into the gums and made itself right at home.

Getting Close to Man’s Best Friend

A woman called her dentist about her crown that fell out. This is the right thing to do, so she got scheduled and had her appointment to have it bonded on. The visit went without a hitch, and she was able to get back her strong bite.

However, the shock didn’t come until after she was getting ready to leave. It turns out her dog ate her restoration. So, she had to wait for nature to make its own call before she picked up the phone.

Do You Mind Passing the Tissues?

In this case, a man rushed to his dentist. He looked noticeably unwell, so his dentist brought him back and was getting ready to find the underlying problem. It didn’t take long to spot it.

When the patient opened his mouth, the team was met with one of the worst mouth infections they had ever seen. There was a hole in the man’s palate that he routinely stuffed with tissue paper. While he changed it weekly, it was a perfect environment for bacteria to build up.

These stories might be shocking, but you can do your best to avoid dental emergencies by taking care of your smile. Brushing, flossing, and having routine checkups and cleanings are a great way to keep your teeth and gums strong; that way, you flaunt a worry-free grin and don’t become a strange case yourself.
