No Judgement Zone: Why You Shouldn’t Feel Embarrassed at the Dentist

It’s nearly impossible to live a life completely free from embarrassment. You may have a moment that you remember from your past, like stumbling on your words in front of your crush or accidentally spilling coffee on yourself in a busy café. There is one instance that you shouldn’t feel embarrassed about, and that is going to your dentist.

You may feel anxious about the visit if you haven’t had a checkup in a long time or know that you need an advanced treatment, but there’s no need to feel awkward. That might be easier said than done, so here is a breakdown on why you shouldn’t feel embarrassed.

You Won’t Be Judged

A big fear that many people have is that they believe their teeth are going to be the worst their dentist has seen. The good news is your provider has likely seen worse. They are highly trained professionals, so they may have seen severe cases while in school, through case studies, while continuing their education, and in other situations.

Dentists want to ensure that they can help anyone get the oral care they need. They won’t be disgusted or disappointed in your smile. Your dentist will instead do their best to get your teeth back on track to pristine, no matter what their current state is.

Your Dentist Wants the Best for Your Oral and Overall Health

Just like with any other profession, many who go into the dental and medical healthcare field want to help others. That feeling of helping people be their best is rewarding, which makes them want to continue doing so. Your dentist may get professional satisfaction when you finish your treatment and have a healthy, confident smile! They want all of their patients to leave their office with that feeling.

Your Treatments Will Be Personalized and Tailored to You

Every mouth is different. That means that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to oral health issues. Your dentist will create a treatment plan that works for you and only your smile. If it’s been a while since your last checkup, then they may recommend services like a filling or deep cleaning to help bring your smile back to pristine. If you have shown some interest in sprucing up the appearance of your teeth, then they may recommend cosmetic treatments, but you won’t be forced into them.

Your dentist will be honest about what your mouth needs to be healthy. They will explain why and how the procedures do just that. You shouldn’t feel embarrassed about your teeth. You can look forward to a friendly office that is excited that you have taken the first step to take back control of your grin. Just remember that your dentist cares about your smile and you; they want to take the time to ensure that you trust them and are comfortable while in their chair.
